Jeffrey Jens has over thirty-two years’ experience in managing highly visible, troubled, or schedule and cost-challenged projects/programs with safety and health hazards, usually radiological and chemical. He has served as project manager and senior technical advisor for a multitude of Department of Energy and Navy nuclear operations throughout his career. Jeff is known as an effective change agent, and the projects he has led have been cited as models of excellence.

Mr. Jens is also a 20-year veteran of the United States Nuclear Navy Program, including ten years as a Field Representative, Project Engineer, and Project Manager for the Naval Reactors Program. Jeff has led large integrated multi-disciplinary organizations of up to 400 personnel, successfully implementing culture changes and significant upgrades of cross-cutting programs. Because of his extensive experience, he can recruit and retain qualified staff in technical fields for positions that are difficult to fill.

Mr. Jens holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.

Mr. Jens. Is currently serving as a Senior Nuclear Operations Consultant and is providing oversight of the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) contractor readiness activities; and manages and mentors staff to ensure effective and compliant program/project management, safety & health practices (occupational safety, industrial hygiene (I.H.), and radiation controls), quality assurance (Q.A.), and training. He is responsible for overall Core requirement consistency, completeness, and oversight strategies. Jeff has identified issues with developing the Contractor’s proof files required for the next steps in the readiness process and has been mentoring DOE staff.

Mr. Jens managed and oversaw program elements that involved construction, cold operations, readiness, startup, and hot operations for the Salt Waste Processing Facility (SWPF). He directed reviews and surveillances of operations, maintenance, radiological control, and safety/IH activities. Jeff led Management Self-Assessments; developed program plans and procedures and performed verification of program implementation; provided training for emergency response; reviewed and maintained all records for environmental compliance; provided Senior Supervisory Watch coverage and mentored operations, maintenance, and radiological staff during acceptance testing and hot operations commissioning.

Mr. Jens served as a senior technical advisor for U.S. DOE and contractor organizations at the Hanford site, co-authoring the initial Site Radiation Protection Program Plan and the Site Conduct of Operations Manual. He also served as senior technical advisor for U.S. DOE Headquarters, collaborating on the development of codes and standards for radiological controls and conduct of operations and providing input for the development of nuclear safety and quality assurance codes.
